Tour One: Exploring the Western Strandja Reserve

This is a full day outing.

 - We begin our trip driving through the Strandja Nature Reserve via the villages of Bulgari, Gramatikovo to Malko Tarnovo. While in Malko Tarnovo, we will visit several "National Revival" buildings as well as the Strandja museum complex which is housed in four "National Revivial" buildings. From Malko Tarnovo, we travel northwards to the village of Brashlyan.  Brashlyan is the best preserved village in the Strandja region with over 80 preserved sites (some which are over 300 years old).  Some of the sites that we will visit will be the "old village school," the chapels of St. Pantheleymon and St. Leftera as well as the bell house of the ST. Dimitar Church.Brashlyan has been set aside as an Ethnographic Village and the architecture is unique to this specific region in Bulgaria. We will have an option of either returning to Sinemoretz or stay a while longer for a traditional dinner in this unique village.  This may be decided during the trip (dinner costs are not included!) Maximum of 6 people.

One can also find a lot of subtropical plants like kiwi, bamboo, laurel, fig-trees, lemons growing there (a donation, or a purchase of some of the cacti plants on sale is strongly recommended  for the upkeep of the gardens).  We will then backtrack on the coastal highway and begin our drive inland towards the villages of Kosti (within the Silkosia Biosphere) Balgari (a visit to St. Constantine and Elena Church), Kondolovo and Gramatikovo.  Each of these villages provide a unique perspective of architecture, myth and history.  Balgari with its fire dancers (first weekend in June) and Gramatikovo with it's village architecture and Thracian tombs.
