Strandja Tours

Why Explore the Region around Sinemoretz and the Strandja?

Strandja Nature Park is the biggest protected area in Bulgaria. It occupies 1.161 km2 – about 1% of the national territory and 23.5% of the total protected territory in the country. The park includes the Bulgarian sector of the Strandja Mountains, bordering Turkey in the south and the Black Sea on the East.

The Park occupies one of the first places among the protected territories in Europe in terms of biological diversity. Over 50% of the Bulgarian flora are represented there with a big number of endemic, relict, rare and threatened Red Book species. The Strandja Rhododendron (Rhododendron ponticum), flowering with fabulously beautiful violet flowers, is a symbol of the Park.

Sinemoretz is located in a protected zone in the Strandja reserve and is within an IUCN II National Park (in other words a protected area managed mainly for ecosystem protection and recreation).  Within a 20 kilometer radius of Sinemoretz, over 120 breeding species of birds may be found and, during migration,  over 250 species.

Villa Philadelphia takes a proactive role in the immediate area by working with local BirdLife Representatives and authorities by actively promoting the protection of the area's natural wonders.  We work hard by educating the public about the importance of this unique biosphere.
